Contributor guidelines

• Newcastle and the Hunter only. We don't run national takes that aren't anchored locally.
• Lead with the public interest. Tell us why a reader who isn't already inside the story needs to know.
• Disclose conflicts. If you're being paid by, related to, or campaigning against the subject, say so up front.
• We pay for commissioned work. Standard rates start at $0.50 per published word for reporting and $200 per photo essay. We agree the rate in writing before you file.
• We don't pay for opinion. Columns are unpaid but we promote them across the newsletter and social channels.
• Filed copy must be original, source-checked, and free of generative AI without explicit disclosure. We may run edited copy past you, but final wording is the editor's call.
