Cycling in Newcastle: Harbour Trails, The Bathers Way and City Routes

Newcastle has developed an increasingly bike-friendly network of paths and routes across the city and surrounding region. The Bathers Way coastal walk from Nobby's Head to Merewether Beach is primarily a walking path but sections accommodate cyclists, and the connecting roads are relatively low-traffic. The Newcastle Harbour foreshore path from the station precinct to Honeysuckle is a flat, scenically strong route. The Hunter Wetlands cycling path in Shortland provides an off-road route through significant natural habitat. The Fernleigh Track, running approximately 15 kilometres from Adamstown to Belmont, is a sealed shared path through a former railway corridor and is popular with commuters and recreational riders. Newcastle City Council publishes current cycling maps. Hire bikes and e-bikes are available from operators near the city centre.
