The Newcastle Knights open their final eight regular-season rounds on Saturday against the Cronulla Sharks at McDonald Jones Stadium, needing at least five wins to lock in a home final.

With the NRL top-eight cut-off now just three points away, the timing matters because the draw from 12 July onward hands Newcastle four consecutive home fixtures before a two-week Origin break. The club has already used its two byes, so every result counts toward percentage and ladder position.

Local venues shape the push

Training sessions at the Knights' Adamstown base on Brunker Road have drawn larger crowds since the club shifted its main drills there in March. Supporters can also watch open sessions at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre on Turton Road on Tuesdays, where the team runs set-piece work before heading to Broadmeadow for full-pitch drills. The Knights Foundation junior program, run through schools in Mayfield and Waratah, has supplied three of this year's debutants and will hold its annual gala day at No. 1 Sportsground on 20 July.

Club membership stands at 14,872 paid members as of 1 July, up 1,240 on the same date last year. Average home attendance through the first thirteen rounds reached 16,840, with the highest gate of 21,312 recorded against the Roosters on 25 April. Reserved-seat tickets for the Sharks clash start at $28 for adults and $12 for juniors, available at the club office on Hunter Street or through the Knights app until Friday 5 pm.

Next steps for fans and players

Knights players will conduct a community clinic at the Newcastle East Public School on Friday morning before the team sheet is locked in at 4 pm. Supporters planning to attend the remaining home games can buy multi-game passes at the McDonald Jones Stadium box office on game day or collect them from the club shop at Westfield Kotara. The next four results will set the exact finals-weekend schedule if Newcastle stays inside the top four.
